Introduction to Geochemistry

EARTH, ENVIRONMENTAL & PLANETARY SCIENCE 441

Introduction to fundamental geochemical principles and processes that have occurred or are occurring on Earth and in our local solar system. Emphasis is placed on developing problem solving intuition applicable to varied aspects of geochemistry. Development of quantitative skills for addressing a broad range of geochemical problems. Focus on inorganic geochemistry of condensed and differentiated rocky planets. Topics range from planetary differentiation to sea water chemistry with a focus on taking advantage of the entire periodic table of elements and their isotopes. Prerequisites: EEPS 202 and Chem 106 (or AP Chem score of 4), or permission of instructor.
