Exploring new tools and archives for paleoclimatology

Clara Blättler, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Geosciences, Princeton University

Abstract: On geological timescales, many geochemical records are susceptible to diagenetic effects that obscure their original environmental signals. As a result, there is a need for new tools to study these diagenetic processes, and new independent archives for paleoclimate and paleoceanographic conditions. I will present several applications of calcium stable isotopes in marine carbonates, marine evaporites, and speleothems. In these systems, I will examine some of the processes that affect the formation and preservation of geochemical signals, and which are vital for reconstructing Earth’s climate history
