Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on the surface of Mars - self portrait. Pancam-based color view of the top of Spirit showing the solar panels and surrounding soil and pebbles at the Gusev Crater landing site, Mars. Pancam has been used on a continuing basis to image the solar panels to check for accumulation of wind-blown dust. Our department is deeply involved in running both Spirit and Opportunity on Mars and analyzing the data to infer current and past environmental conditions.
